Project data collection is now over.
Summary TBD.
AIRS 1.5 Data Protocol.pdf
One of the core objectives of this project is to build a prototype
system or combination of systems to enhance weather related decision making
at airports. In development is a system called AVISA (Airport Vicinity
Icing and Snow Advisor). The core objective of this
project is to build a prototype system or combination of systems to enhance
weather related decision making at airports. Although weather hazards
exist in all seasons, AVISAs initial focus is on winter weather.
The main impairments to flight operations are accumulation of ice on wings
and accumulation of snow or ice on runways, in addition to other hazards
such as high winds or low visibility. AVISA attempts to bring together
observations and model outputs from various sources and fuse together
what information is available to the system at a particular time. AVISA's
progress is on-going and it will utilize the AIRS 1.5 data sets in its
testing phases. At the moment, the system is able to accept data input
from a number of sources including:
- M300 data
- GOES satellite data
- VPR data
- GEM MOLTS time series data
- RUC data
- Radar Point Forecast data
- Radar URPSTATS data
- Station Obs data
